I understand that peak oil is accurate and that we are now past the point of peak oil. I believe many of the current events have to do with this understanding and it won’t be long before the main stream media and population wake up and understand what is going on. For me and my family, we are preparing for the life after the crash.

I was wondering if you had a higher resolution image of ‘totnesFoodshed’ that I could look at – I am a Dartington College of Arts student but predominantly involved myself with GIS and realise that your idea is very close to home, unlike many of the other information out there.

“There is not enough woodfuel for space heating.” is this statement not based on current housing stock? Housing which, almost universally, is badly designed with regards to heating.
Surely if relocalisation means building new housing in the countryside to replace housing in inner city areas does this not mean that we have the chance to build housing that doesn’t need woodfuel for heating.
Also if “by the time we realise we’re really in an energy crisis it will be too late” and there is mass exodus of urban areas there will not be time to build new housing. We will then have to makes better use of the housing that is already in the country side. Housing more people together in a given space will reduce the need for heating.
I realise this is simplistic and idealistic, but my point still stands. We need better design and utilisation of our housing ( and a shift in planning policies).
