Identifying sustainable development locations
Recognising the need to locate brownfield sites with housing development potential, major housebuilder George Wimpey plc (now Taylor Wimpey) commissioned Geofutures to design a weighted overlay tool which allowed their property strategists to identify sites in the government’s National Land Use Database and their own property datasets.
Key commercial and environmental criteria can be sensitively weighted according to their importance to locate potential regeneration opportunities.
Running securely online, the tool’s performance was optimised with an efficient configuration of database, model and delivery interface, allowing thousands of locations to be searched in the minimum time.
Any user can access the tool from a standard browser, and the mapped results provide dynamic links to underlying development information.
