Our sustainability statement

Beyond the ‘policy’: sustainability in practice

Geofutures aims to operate in a way which reduces our environmental impact to a practical minimum. This commitment, kept constantly under review to find improvements, is currently put into practice in the following ways:

Office premises

Our offices, in the heart of Bath’s Widcombe Parade, are located centrally and close to the railway station to avoid any member of staff needing to travel to work by car. Natural ventilation is used in preference to air conditioning except on the hottest days of summer.

We buy green tariff electricity and carbon offset gas, use low-energy lighting, and follow a strict routine of powering down equipment completely when not in use. Flexible arrangements including remote working help to reduce unnecessary and peak time travel.

IT infrastructure

To avoid obsolete computer hardware being scrapped with each upgrade, Geofutures works with a local supplier to specify and self-build computers using replaceable components, and chooses reconditioned printers and other equipment where available.

Stationery and peripherals

Stationery is sourced from The Green Stationery Company, a Bath-based supplier of recycled or environmentally advantageous office products. We recycle all ink toner cartridges and use reconditioned cartridges where possible. All printing is double-sided and other waste paper is used as scrap before recycling.

All batteries used are rechargeable, the towels and cloths we use are washable, and we provide culinary equipment to help reduce the use of disposable cups, food cartons etc.

We purchase Fair Trade tea, coffee and herbal teas for colleagues.

Recycling

All glass, cardboard, cans, paper, metals and plastic bottles are recycled, with the co-operation of colleagues. All organic food waste is collected in an odour-free Bokashi system and composted locally.
